Education is a lifelong process and an individual goes on increasing his store of experience. Through contact with the environment, he receives some education in one form or another. Education is a social process, which is concerned with how the student develops as an individual and in-group relations. Its objective is to prepare the individual for participation in society, and it serves as a vehicle by which the culture of the group can be transmitted and perpetuated. Education is preparation for life. Education is experience. The word education has sometimes been used in a very broad sense to designate the totality of influences that nature or other men are able to exercise on our intelligence or on our will.
Tagore's early education did not help him relate himself to India’s cultural tradition or social life. He developed a system of education, which would result in the synthesis of the mind and the heart. He believed that personality of the children should be exposed to Nature to receive nourishment. The children should be in close and constant contact with Nature to sustain them emotionally and spiritually. Education is a continuous process and takes place where there is a meeting of the minds of the teacher and the students. For Tagore, the teacher is a preceptor whose living example is more important and influential than his learning or scholarship. Santiniketan and Viswa-Bharati embody Tagore's vision as an educationist. In Tagore's philosophy of education, the aesthetic development of the senses was as important as the intellectual.
Dr. Koppula Victor Babu is working as Associate Professor in Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Visakha Institute of Engineering and Technology, Visakhapatnam. Post Doctoral Fellow from Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi, India, and He obtained his Degree with a Gold Medal and Master of Philosophy in Philosophy and Doctorate in Philosophy from Andhra University, India. He was awarded national fellowships like Gandhian Research Fellowship, JRF and GF during his academic and research career. He is an erudite scholar, a teacher par excellence, a rare combination of excellent qualities blended into a pleasing personality. He has extensive research experience in Philosophy of Education. He has published a large number of research publications in International and National journals of repute, like International Journal of Medicine and Pharma Research, New Delhi, International Journal of Interdisciplinary Education, USA. He has handled a research and consultancy projects. He has participated and presented over 30 research papers in international and national conferences, seminar, and workshops. He is the solo author of two books on Philosophy of Education and Christian Ethics with international publishers. His areas of research interest include Philosophy of Religion, Applied Philosophy, Global Education and Philosophy and Technology issues. He has a member in many national and international philosophy organizations.
